Description:
Eduardo Sainz de la Maza was born in Burgos, Spain. His older brother Rejino (1896-1981) had also studied piano and guitar, and Eduardo began studying music at the age of six, but the family was poor and could not afford to have another brother study music. Rechino began guitar lessons and, perhaps because of his talent, Eduardo switched to cello instead of guitar and became a cellist. In parallel, he learned to compose music, and he published a series of cello and guitar pieces that eventually earned him a reputation as a composer. This album contains his guitar pieces. This album contains his guitar pieces such as "The Bells of Dawn," which has a wonderful tremolo technique, and "Platero and I" based on the poem of the same name by Juan Ramos Jimenez (also known as Castelnuovo-Tedesco's work), which has a unique flavor.
