This is Norwegian trumpeter Matthias Eijk's first new album in three years since "Ravensburg". His expressive playing radiates a "plaintive yet penetrating tone," according to the New York Times, and is enhanced by his talented supporting players and fellow musicians. Violinist Hakon Arze is one of the outstanding improvisers of his generation, shadowing the leader with lines that reflect his deep background in folk as well as jazz. The breathtakingly precise interplay between drummers Helge Andeas Norbakken and Torstein Lofthus, and at the heart of the band, pianist Andreas Ulvo and bassist Audun Erlien, between the front line and the rhythm section exchanging ideas and expressing themselves uniquely.
