Her voice truly shines in this kind of environment, her vocals taking center stage in the midst of guitars, following a melody that invites you to commiserate. The songs are of a darker, sadder hue. Slow, methodical, operatic almost. The lyrics ringing in the heart and the instruments allowing the words and her voice to take space near the center, a spotlight on the blood letting.

When a song like "Mistakes" comes on, one of the more sonically dense, faster, more single sounding compositions, it's a smart change of pace when it's necessary. This is kind of her best album.
