Navy Steelworkers perform tasks directly related to fabrication and erection of pre-engineered structures, including steel reinforcement for concrete construction. They control job site deployment of materials and equipment, direct and coordinate the composition, training, and efforts of crews who fabricate, assemble, erect, position, and join structural members and fabricated sections. SW personnel are the Seabees who build the steel frameworks that support buildings, bridges, towers, and other structures.

Steelworkers fabricate structural steel components, erect steel frameworks, install steel reinforcement (rebar) in concrete, weld structural steel connections, operate rigging equipment to lift and position steel members, and ensure that all structural work meets engineering specifications and safety standards. They work with everything from small steel fabrications to massive structural frameworks for buildings and bridges.
