When the project demands robust waterproofing across diverse, challenging environments – from below-ground retaining walls to potable water tanks and continuously wet areas – the choice of membrane is critical. Gripset 2P ensures structures are reliably secured against water ingress, providing a durable, flexible, and fully compliant barrier in critical applications.

Why this product exists

Gripset 2P was engineered as a versatile, two-component cementitious membrane to deliver exceptional durability and toughness. It maintains flexible, high-adhesion properties across a broad spectrum of waterproofing applications, including under-tile, immersed, and subterranean environments. This formulation also offers fast-drying capabilities, making it effective even in cooler and humid conditions.

The numbers that matter

  • Class II membrane with >200% elongation: This flexibility ensures the membrane accommodates normal substrate movement, preventing cracking and maintaining integrity under typical building stresses. It’s crucial for protecting against structural movement in environments like retaining walls or large concrete slabs.
  • >1 MPa tensile strength: This high tensile strength translates to a tough, durable film that resists tearing and puncture. It provides a robust barrier against hydrostatic pressure and minor impact, vital for longevity in exposed or buried applications.
  • 2% water absorption: A low water absorption rate is key for any waterproofing membrane. This value confirms Gripset 2P's effectiveness in preventing moisture ingress, making it suitable for continuously wet and immersed environments, including potable water tanks, without compromising its barrier properties.

What it's like to use

Gripset 2P is a two-component system, consisting of a 10-litre liquid (Part A) and a 15kg powder (Part B). Ensure the liquid is in the mixing pail first, then slowly add the powder while mixing with an electric stirrer and paddle attachment at a slow-medium speed. Continuous mixing ensures a lump-free, homogenous consistency. Allow the mix to settle for 3-5 minutes, then re-stir before application. Always add powder to liquid, never the reverse.

Apply Gripset 2P with a brush, medium-high nap roller, or spray unit. A total of two coats is required to achieve the minimum 1.2mm dry film thickness, corresponding to a coverage of 1.5 litres/m². Apply subsequent coats in different directions. Allow 2-4 hours between coats. The membrane is ready for tiling or toppings after 24 hours, with full immersion resistance achieved in 7 days. Clean-up of wet product is with water; dried material requires mechanical removal.

Where this product excels

  • Retaining walls, lift pits, and civil structures: As a primary membrane, Gripset 2P forms a durable and flexible barrier against ground moisture and hydrostatic pressure in these critical below-ground applications. Its toughness handles the demands of backfilling and long-term soil contact.
  • Roofing — concrete roofs and membrane-covered tiled areas: Gripset 2P provides reliable waterproofing for concrete roof structures and under-tile applications on podiums and balconies. Its Class II flexibility helps manage thermal movement and substrate shifts common in exposed environments.
  • Water features, tanks, and potable water storage: Certified for potable water storage, this membrane is an ideal choice for water containment structures. Its low water absorption and immersion resistance ensure a lasting seal for pools, water features, and drinking water tanks.
  • Planter boxes and earth shelters: The membrane's durable film and resistance to damp loading protect structural elements in planter boxes and earth-covered structures, ensuring long-term integrity against soil moisture.

How it fits in a real system

Gripset 2P consistently functions as the primary waterproofing membrane in various build-ups. In landscaped areas and planter boxes, it typically forms the first critical layer, applied directly to the prepared substrate before drainage layers and soil. For lift pits and retaining walls, Gripset 2P is also often the initial membrane, frequently followed by a polyurethane joint sealant like Adheseal PU25 to detail movement joints or as a final sealant around penetrations. Priming is essential before application; companion products like damp concrete primer or two-part epoxy primer are commonly specified to ensure optimal adhesion over diverse substrates.

Choose this when

  • When the application demands a versatile, durable membrane suitable for continuously wet or immersed environments, including potable water tanks, swimming pools, or water features.
  • When waterproofing critical areas like retaining walls, lift pits, or concrete roofs, requiring a robust and flexible barrier against moisture and substrate movement.
  • When working in cooler or humid conditions where fast curing is beneficial for project timelines.
  • When a Class II flexible membrane is specified to accommodate normal substrate movement in internal wet areas, balconies, or podiums before tiling.

Don't use this when

  • Not for: Use as a trafficable surface. It requires protection from foot traffic and heavy loads.
  • Not for: Areas subject to negative hydrostatic pressure, where water pushes the membrane off the substrate.
  • Not for: Application when surface or ambient temperatures are below 5°C or above 30°C.
  • Not for: Applications demanding extreme flexibility or structural movement beyond normal, as it accommodates typical Class II substrate movement.

Gripset 2P complies with AS4858 and AS4654.1, confirming its suitability for use as a waterproofing membrane in internal and external wet areas. Furthermore, its certification to AS/NZ 4020 – 2018 verifies its safe use in potable water storage applications, ensuring water quality is maintained.

Gripset 2P versus Gripset C-1P: Choosing the right cementitious membrane

Gripset 2P is a flexible, Class II two-component cementitious membrane, designed for its versatility across demanding applications, including continuous immersion and subterranean use. It achieves its robust properties and flexibility through the precise blend of its liquid polymer and cementitious powder components. For applications demanding extreme flexibility or structural movement beyond normal Class II accommodation, such as in areas with high seismic activity or significant dynamic loading, consider specialised high-elongation membranes designed for such conditions. If the project requires a single-component, pre-mixed option for internal wet areas or less demanding external applications, Gripset C-1P offers a convenient, flexible solution.
