Description:
Verdi's "Requiem" was composed in memory of the great Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni. Although it is in the form of religious music, it is a piece of music with the flamboyant musicality of Verdi, who excelled at dramatic operas, and has enjoyed strong popularity even up to the present day. However, at the time of its premiere, there was a reaction that such dramatic expression was "not appropriate for a church," and this video shows a stage performance that seems to have taken the opposite side of such opinions. The orchestra, chorus, and ballet of the opera house all came together to perform this outstanding performance. It is a comprehensive work of art made possible only by the Zurich Opera. The choreography and direction by Christian Spück, artistic director of the Zurich Ballet, beautifully expresses Verdi's outstanding descriptive power of music with monotone costumes and effective lighting. The ballet dancers' movements, as well as the placement of the singers, follow the music naturally, making this a must-see production. The conductor is Fabio Luisi. The collaboration of high musicality and visual effects is a performance that only Luigi, who has established himself as an opera conductor, can deliver.
